How To Build Garden Fountains

by Alyssa McCall

After a long hectic day with all the bustle and hustle, anyone will most likely want to spend some quiet time in a place with garden fountains. The sound of the birds chirping, that breeze blowing on your face and the brooks babbling is worth every cent. Spending lots of cash either to spend luxury time in a fountain or to have one installed in your backyard can be expensive. There are ways to build your own fountain with having to ask for a loan and that is what this guide is all about.

Begin by planning your design. Decide where the spring will be located and the size you want because all these will determine the materials you will need to purchase. The fountain will have three main elements for it to work efficiently. A reservoir, a water pump and an architectural or design feature.

Remember that the location of this piece of architecture needs to be near an electrical outlet, so that you do not have to use very long extension cords to power the water pump. There are many styles and designs you can choose from. It all depends on your personal tastes and preferences.

Reservoirs should not fret you especially if you have some equipment in the garage. Old bath tubs and tanks no longer in use can make very wonderful water storage items. If you intend to have an above the ground reservoir, then go creative and see how much you can do with these otherwise garbage materials. Unique springs are created from sometimes old bottles, cast stones and broken jewels. Make these items for recycling into a beautiful design for your designed water flow. Note that the pump is fitted next to a reservoir most of the time.

The quality and type of pipes is something that should be given a high priority. Pipes deliver water from the reservoir to the fountain. Not only should they look beautiful but also be durable enough to serve the structure. Companies that manufacture water pumps generally sell them with their own pipes. This might not be the case with some manufacturers. You might sometimes need to alter a few things just to fit the design, which means buying the pipes separately. Rubber pipes are the easiest to use but consult widely before fitting them especially if you live in very hot regions.

Assemble your fountain parts together. If you intend to have below the ground fountain, begin by digging a hole that the reservoir can fit in. If you have chosen a location that is far away from the electricity power point, then consider digging trenches to hide the cords and to remember to separate them from the reservoir hole.

Fit the pump correctly as directed. All the pipes need to be fitted well. If you have a design of your own, ensure that the entire flow is coordinated without leakages. Go creative and play around with the design of the spring.

Fill your garden fountains with water and ignite the pump. You can go an extra mile with lights and other decorative elements for aesthetics. Learn how to make your backyard look beautiful without spending too much.
