What A Guys Hobby Says About Him And You
by Rena Hudson
Collecting things, building other things, killing still other things and cooking are all part of a guys hobby that they simple love. There is no telling what a guy will do when they have decided they need to do something. They might not make much sense to you, however, you are not the one that has to take painstaking care in the accomplishing of them.
Some of the many things that come to mind is that collection of beer cans. He has tried to clean all of them, however, there are going be a few that gets by his close attention to detail. Closely associated with that is his inability to keep all of those baseball and football trading cards gathered in one place. It seems they would be worth a lot more if they were boxed up, however, that not the way it worked out.
Many collections do make financial sense, at least as far as future gains are concerned. This would include the coin collection. Those boxes of adult specialty magazines may not have the same things said about them. Competitive eating is not as valuable as other pursuits and the largest ball of string has been done.
Hunting and fishing is something that, at least, gets the guy out of the house for a while. Sometimes, probably more often than not, it is simply a camping trip with guns. The heads being brought back for stuffing, and or the stuffing itself, could be the main part of the exercise.
Collecting guns is a way of helping to preserve the American culture. Taking pleasure in rebuilding an old classic car is something that, on one level, is strenuous and on the other is satisfaction in accomplishment. Building model airplanes or working with miniature trains, with all of the scenery and accessories that entails, brings men back to simpler times when this is what they played with.
It is not the accumulation of material goods that has most men wanting to get, do, collect and or accomplish, it is the activity they can participate in. Men need to be busy, even if it is just intellectual pursuits such as reading all of the books of certain writers. Some of the things they have as hobbies has a purpose even if it can not be stated in such a way as can be understood.
When one really thinks about it, that guy of yours can only play with the kids till they grow up. They are not going to be able to build that ship contained in a bottle when they can not see the small parts anymore. The extreme sports they enjoy, such as sky diving and base jumping will not always be as easy as it once was.
That is probably why the things they do now should actually be encouraged. Unless they want to begin a hobby of robbing banks, or blowing up stadiums full of people, a guys hobby is a personal thing. They know you do not necessarily approve of it, however, tolerance is all they expect and an occasional, looks good, man.
