Do you remember when a baby monitor did little more than pick up the conversations your neighbors were having on their cordless telephones? But these days, baby monitors are definitely more advanced than only being able to simply pick up or transmit sound waves. And even more advanced monitoring is done with video. Choosing the right monitor, can therefore be difficult and often times confusing, because the options are virtually limitless! You may even be thinking "Are you kidding me? Baby monitors are simple!", but the fact remains that with the technogly advances today, there is more to think about than whether or not there will be too much feedback interferences. But before you go ripping your hair out in frustration, just consider these tips as a general guideline to help you and your family pick out the best baby monitor.
First, you'll probably want to control the volume on your receiver. While you want the monitoring station to pick up even the tiniest sound of discontent, you want to make sure the receiver has a volume knob that lets you choose an appropriate setting. You won't want to be suddenly awakened by a harsh, shrieking noise just because your baby rustled the covers. You DO want a system that adequately conveys an alarm without breaking your eardrums.
How extensive would you like your system to be? If you don't have that much space, you may not be able to get more extensive systems, and if you live in a small home a single receiver or base station might be better. In larger homes or homes in which lots of people are around to help, having multiple receivers might be a good idea. It's important to note that some multiple receivers have the option of both inbound and outbound communication, which may be useful if you have many people residing in your home. Consider as well that having more than one receiver gives you the opportunity to monitor your baby from more than one room, so that you don't always have to carry around the receiver everywhere.
How many features are you looking for? Consider how extensive you actually want your system to be, because if you live in a small space, extensive systems may end up becoming to bulky and could get in the way of your everyday living. Multiple receivers are a good option for those who have more space, for those who live in a larger home, or for those who have larger families already. Also, you should remember that if you are going to choose a multiple receiver system, the best ones are the ones which have both outbound and inbound communication abilities. Deciding on more than one receiver can be useful if you don't always want to be carrying it around, and also is useful if you have more than one child.
You never know, perhaps in the end you may prefer to have a visual monitor so you can always keep an eye on your baby.
