How To Create The Green Lantern Movie Costume

by David Lawson

The Green Lantern movie costume is going to be a popular item at Halloween this year. Many boys and men will be wearing their personal interpretation of this fascinating character. The recently released movie gives the illusion that the suit is made from light emanating forth from the ring the character wears. The final illusion is that of a tightly fitting second skin that has an almost transparent quality.

One easy method to mimicking this look is to wear a body sculpting undershirt available online. It fits the torso very tightly defining one's muscle pattern. This in turn is topped with a Kelly green colored leotard with a high neck and the same colored tights. The Lycra fabric allows the torso muscles to be clearly viewed.

The black boots can be purchased from Amazon and are called Funtasma boots. There are several styles in this product line to choose from and their edgy design is in keeping with the fantasy Green Lantern look. The material is soft enough that decorative items can be sewn on them.

People who love to paint may choose to draw the mask around their eyes. This is less cumbersome to wear than a face mask. The equipment needed to paint can be found in a craft's store. The body paint colors of black, white and kelly green are all that is needed.

Keeping an image of the mask close at hand to refer to regularly is helpful when duplicating it onto the face. The greenish shade and black are used to fill in the exposed skin areas.Starting off with the greenish-shade the eye area right up to a few inches over the eyebrows is painted in. The white color is used to accentuate more prominent regions of the face. Free tutorial videos are online to help in the shading technique.

For a real mask one can make it cheaply from a 12x18 inch Foamies sheet available in craft stores. Other supplies include two rigid plastic Batman masks purchased from an inexpensive discount shop. Cut put a six inch wide rectangle from one end of the sheet. Preheat an over to 250 degrees F and place the Foamies piece onto the rack for a few minutes.

Remove the drooping Foamies piece and place onto the eyes of the Batman mask. Cup the second mask over it and press to shape the foamies. Trace around the eyeholes with a black felt pen. Remove the new mask from between the two Batman masks and trim off the excess material cutting out the two eye holes also. Adhere the mask to the face with a few dabs of spirit gum.

The Green Lantern movie uniform also features a ring. This can be purchased from a large chain toy store. For the do it yourself person the ring can be made from wax, wood or even cardboard. A template of the ring can be made first and traced onto cardboard. Once that is cut out it can be bent, glued, and spray painted green.
