If you want to buy a baby monitor, you are about to find out just how confusing the whole process can be! These days, choosing a baby monitor can actually be quite difficult, and because of our technological advances, we no longer have just a few models to choose from. Furthermore, some monitors even allow you to watch your baby from another room with full audio and video monitoring, and you may even find systems which can be wired into your home, or others which simply plug into outlets! But before you run off and buy the first monitor you see, here are some hints to help you figure out what you need.
What size monitor should you get? If you don't have that much space in your home, you may want to consider something which will be the least obtrusive. You may have room for a rather large machine, and might even not mind if it takes up a lot of space, as long as it transmits sounds or does what you want it to. Portable monitors may have to be carried around, and can easily be left on the counter somewhere or in another room and forgotten about, so you should also consider how you will be using the monitor in the first place. That is why it's important to assess these kinds of things, because you need to find a device which will work with your type of lifestyle and habits. Consider as well, that if you are only going to be using the monitor in one room, then something larger is perfectly acceptable, however if you are planning on moving around a lot, you will want something which is definitely light weight. How much surveillance are you looking for? Some parents feel the need to track everything their baby is doing when they are not in the same room. Others find that, if constant surveillance is available, they'll spend all of their time sitting in front of the system watching it-which can increase their nervousness that something might go wrong. If however, you do feel that it's necessary to have extra surveillance features for your monitoring system, you will want to look into systems which have video and audio surveillance. Since more extensive systems can kill a lot of your time, because you will be sitting there watching them, some parents may choose to still go with a simple audio surveillance system instead of the full on system. Remember that your decision does not reflect on your parenting abilities directly, because the system itself should simply be one that helps YOU get your tasks done as easily and effectively as possible when you are not in the same room as your baby, and since we have many responsibilities as adults, we cannot always be in the same room.
What is going on in your home that could potentially interfere with the effectiveness of your baby monitor? You might not realize it, but many of the electronic devices in your home right now (such as cordless phones or even your radio) could interfere with how well your baby monitor operates. It's important to get a monitor which can operate on different frequencies so that your electronic deceives do not end up malfunctioning.
When you use a visual monitor, it will alert you of what is going on in the room, and that way you will not miss the signal just because of external noises around you. These are especially important if one or both of the parents is hearing impaired.
You might want a system that lets you visually monitor your child when you are not in the room.
