Dehydration could be prevented effectively by giving the child some special fluids via the mouth. Fluid including fresh juice and water when given on a regular basis also help a great deal and are recommended.

It may be important to call a doctor if this condition goes on for over 24 hours. If the stool contains mucus, blood or pus or if it is too watery the doctor should be consulted. If there is fever or if signs of dehydration are present, consult a doctor. Such signs include sunken abdomen, cheeks or eyes, frequent crying or irritability. Dry mouth and tongue plus listlessness are dehydration signs too.

Diarrhea in toddlers is very common due to the fact that they are vulnerable to viruses and bacteria that cause it. It is important to detect the symptoms early to avoid any complications that may occur later. There are various ways that this condition can be treated depending on how serious it is.
