Learning about the way that kids grow up is very interesting. The process by which a small ball of cells becomes a fully functional person will blow your mind. The fact is that there is a lot more to a baby that initially meets the eye. Babies are far more complex than people think. They have their own sets of wants and needs that must be met to ensure that they develop properly. There is so much more to infancy development than most people realize. Being a parent is easier if you understand what is going on as your child grows from baby to small kid to teenager and onward.
An infant's body is made up of three hundred individual bones. When a person becomes an adult there are only two hundred and six bones in his or her body. The reason you have fewer bones as an adult is that some of the bones you are born with fuse with other bones-not because you lose anything along the way. Some people think that this is one of the reasons that babies are so much more physically flexible than adults, because some of their bones are still able to move about independent of each other. When you see how easily babies can move and compare it to your own physical limitations this might be a plausible theory for you.
Believe it or not, this is why a baby will sometimes favor certain toys. So that means that all of those black and white mobiles that you scoff at in stores for being too "artsy" are actually better for your baby's developing eyes than the pastel one you were probably thinking of getting!
A baby can create an array of sounds that will amaze even the most talented vocalist-even though it will take a while before those sounds become anything that you will be able to identify as real words. It takes a while for an infant's voice box to finish forming, which is why it can make so many amazing sounds so soon! It is due to this that a baby can make more sounds than an adult can make. Babies quickly start to assign the sounds they make to the things that they want or need. This is why a mother can usually tell if her baby's cries mean that he is hungry or tired or that he needs a diaper change. A baby's first word is usually one that he can make using the consonants made by the front of his mouth and a couple of vowel sounds. Babies will usually say "dada" before "mama" because "dada" uses the front of the mouth and is easier for the baby to learn to say-and it's first utterance is almost always an accident!
Most people think that babies do not learn how to smile until a few weeks after they are born. If a baby does smile before a certain point, most people think it is gas. For a long time it was common thought that smiling was a learned behavior-something that the baby learned from his or her parents over the first few weeks of life. Disapproval and unhappiness were thought to be easier for a baby to express than happiness. Now it is apparent that this has always been wrong. As ultrasound technology advances, people are seeing their children smile while they are still in utero. Many families have been given ultrasound pictures of their smiling children weeks before they are due to be born. Some scientists now believe that the reason babies take so long to "learn" to smile is because the birthing process is so traumatic for them.
