Can Defensive Drivers Make The World A Safer Place?

by Abrafi Rose

Bad drivers are the cause of most accidents that occur on roadways. The primary trouble with this, is the majority of people hurt aren't the ones causing the car wrecks. Although it might not be what you would like to do, you need to be a defensive driver any time you put your key into the ignition of your car. The only smart way to drive, is to keep alert, and watch the other drivers, anticipating what they might do.

Numerous techniques are available to help you be able to handle whatever happens when you are at the wheel of your car. The number one driving technique is to be aware. Once you get behind the wheel of your car, it is not the time to be chatting with people on the phone or in the car and it's a bad idea to spend much time looking at the passing sights. The main reason for driving is to travel from one place to another place, safely. Whatever can cause a distraction, such as car radios, cell phones, laying on makeup, and other passengers, are all different ways that can cause an accident.

Even if talking on a mobile phone while driving is forbidden in many places around the world, that has not stopped people from doing so. Using one hand to drive and the other hand to hold on to a cell phone can be problematic as talking with someone can be very distracting. It is very easy to get so interested in your conversation, that you aren't even thinking about what you are seeing on the road in front of you. If you have the need to swerve to avoid something, you might not even be able to react if your concentration is not there. There is no strategy to anticipate when driving conditions may suddenly change so you need to be ever vigilant.

You need to be aware because you cannot predict when you may come up on a pothole or something else in the road. While an average road poses no danger to your safety while driving, dangerous items can sometimes fall off of trucks and, in some locations, falling rocks are a real possibility. Things like this make crashes possible while you least expect them. When the driver inadvertently comes across something in the road when he is certainly driving at normal speed, his car will experience some damage even if it is relatively minor. Nevertheless it could be sufficient to trigger a serious accident, throwing your vehicle into the path of another vehicle, or possibly a rollover accident. Unquestionably, there have been numerous times when you had to move quickly so you wouldn't hit something in the road and you can only imagine what would have happened if you were not paying attention.

Being aware of your surrounds is important in areas where there are possible animals on the highway, or places where there are walkers, joggers or bicycle riders. A defensive driver will be on the alert for them at all times. The worst thing you need can be to be liable for the injury of a person, who was in the right place on the side of the road, due to your carelessness by not paying attention.
