Baby Clinical Thermometer: Helpful Instrument To Sense Fever In Babies

by Marilyn Lopez

Fever is experienced by all of us usually at the most unexpected times. As such, it is a must that our first aid kit is always packed with a good quality thermometer that may be used to monitor our temperature during unexpected bouts of said illness. Baby clinical thermometers are also especially necessary in households with babies and infants. Hence, carefully understanding this device is important before making any purchases decision.

Fever is a medical condition characterized by an elevated body temperature that is above the normal range of 36-37C. It is a common medical sign that is usually associated with more serious diseases. As such, it is important to properly monitor one's temperature, especially babies and infants who cannot tell yet what they're feeling. To be able to regularly monitor one's body temperature, a good medical thermometer-which is a device that measures temperature gradient-is a must have in every household.

Cornelius Drebbel, Robert Fludd, Gallileo Gallilei, and Santorio Santorio are among the group of people who developed the thermometer in between the 16th and 17th Century. The term "thermometer" was derived from the Greek words thermo () and meter which mean "warm" and "to measure", respectively. Two main parts make up a thermometer-the temperature sensor and the converter of the body temperature a numerical value. The second part of the said device may vary depending on the type of thermometer being used to measure one's temperature. Baby clinical thermometers, rectal thermometers, oral thermometers, and ear thermometers are among the popular types of said device being used in households and medical facilities, alike.

As was earlier stated, it is important to select the best type of thermometer to be used in measuring one's temperature-especially that of babies and infants. The first and one of the most important things to consider when purchasing this device is its ability to provide clinically accurate readings. It is also important to carefully check on the devices turn around time to provide readings. Also, it is important to look for designs that are as noninvasive as possible.

Baby clinical thermometers-which can be purchased as ear or tympanic, pacifier, or oral and underarm type-are the commonly used type of thermometers when measuring a baby's body temperature. As the name suggests, ear or tympanic baby thermometers measure the baby's temperature through the ear drum-which is considered the body's exact point for measuring temperature and is also one of the most sensitive parts of the body. On the other hand, the easiest, safest, and most user-friendly type of thermometer that may be used in measuring an infant's temperature is the pacifier thermometer. Alternatively, the oral or underarm type thermometer measures the temperature either on the mouth or the underarm.

As was mentioned, the market is now encumbered with numerous brands of thermometers. Parents may elect either digital ones or branded baby clinical thermometers, depending on their preferences. What is important is that they select the best one that will be able to provide accurate readings when necessary.

Marilyn Lopez is the mother of a 6 month old baby girl. According to Marilyn, having a sick baby is always something she tries to avoid, thus, she keeps a baby clinical thermometer (<a href="http://www.fieberthermometer-info.de/baby-fieberthermometer/baby-fieberthermometer.html">baby fieberthermometer</a>) always to monitor her baby's condition.
