Finding The Right Baby Monitor

by Silva Carvalho

Looking for a decent baby monitor is no different than looking for other baby-care products.

It won't take much time before you're stressed and overwhelmed. Of course you want to monitor your baby when you're not in the room, and you don't know which product is the best for your situation. You're having difficulty knowing what to pay. You see dozens of different brands and types of systems when you go to the store. It's easy for you to start feeling a bit frustrated and a little overwhelmed - but do not worry about it! So let's talk about how to determine which monitor system will be great for your baby and you.

Find a monitor that gives you control over the volume on your receiver end. Of course you'll want to hear any sound of distress, but try to find a monitor that allows you to adjust volume to a comfortable level. Imagine flying out of your bed because it sounded like a three alarm fire, and you rush in to discover your baby is playing with a toy and making noise. You DO want a system that adequately conveys an alarm without breaking your eardrums.

Choose your frequency carefully. Many inexpensive baby monitors will operate at a 49MHz frequency. This particular frequency will contain the greatest amount of interference - must be why they're so cheap to buy. These are the systems that will also try to field calls from your neighbors cordless phones, pick up conversations had on cell phones by passing drivers and, potentially even your neighbors' monitoring system. But higher frequency monitors don't have those problems, plus they're easier to operate. However, you can side-step these problems by getting a monitor operating at 2.4 Ghz.

How many options do you want to have? In a small home, you might be fine with a simple base station and single receiver. If you have more space available in your home, a system which includes multiple receivers may be a better option. If you are in fact thinking about getting a multiple receiver, consider getting one that has the feature of both inbound and outbound communication. Also, if you choose to have more than one receiver, it will allow you to monitor more than one child consecutively, and you also won't have to worry about always carrying it around with you. There are many ways to narrow down your choices so that you can choose the right monitor for your home. When you are figuring out whether or not to buy it, you should be considering things like the shape/size, cost, frequency, battery life and other aspects because there are important aspects. If you start shopping without thinking of what you really want or need, you could end up wasting a lot of your valuable time, just take your time and research before you start shopping.
