Easy Ways To Become A Better Photographer

by Lisette Burgoon

Whether you're looking to express yourself or for a way to relax, photography can be wonderful. If you enjoy the challenge of taking good photographs, or even looking at the works of others, you can learn to choose unique vantage points and creative techniques to capture images on "film" like no one has ever seen them. No words can replace what a picture tells us.

Discrimination is a vital skill for a good photographer; when you are going to show off photos you've taken, present only your very best work. Do not show every photograph you have ever taken or too many of the same subject matter. It can get very boring for others to see the same thing over and over again. Change things up regularly, and pick some unusual shots to show.

Though there are techniques that can help you be a better photographer, they are not secrets and can be learned easily. Keep taking pictures and gain experience. It is not necessary to get all your pictures developed, or even keep them, which is especially true and convenient of digital cameras. Gaining experience with photography will allow you to use hindsight to get a better view.

Get as close as you can to your subject. Not doing so can result in photos that are too distant or blurred for any clarity. Make it easy for yourself and your viewers to see a subject clear and vividly.

Use different shutter speeds for more creativity. Using fast shutter speeds is common practice to prevent blur, but think about how you can use slow shutter speeds to intentionally blur your photos for creative reasons. See that bicyclist speeding by? The result you get is that the cyclist is sharp but the background is horizontally streaked, expressing speed.

Sharpness is something you need to understand and especially where in an image it happens. Generally, a camera's standard settings place the sharpest focus on subjects in the middle area of the frame. Moving outward, towards the edges of your camera frame, distortion begins.Put something in the front of your landscape pictures to make them more appealing. Adding a pretty rock or an interesting leaf, for example, can add eye appeal. Having perspective will emphasize the subject of your picture and add interest.

There is no denying that you must put forth a great deal of effort to get good results in photography. Some of what you've read here can help you to improve instantly, while other tips will take plenty of practice before you see a change in your shots. Just remember not to lose your joy, this is supposed to be fun after all. Keep the tips that were mentioned in your mind and you will be a great photographer.
