Lil' Wayne's name should not confuse anyone, because contrary to his name, Lil' Wayne is anything but. In fact, with a 25 year career that started when he was 9 years old under his belt, Lil' Wayne has gained a lot of experience, and became one of the world's biggest hip-hop stars. The career of Lil' Wayne began when, at 9 years old, he met, and was signed, by Bryan Williams, owner of Cash Money Records. Under Williams' tutelage, Lil' Wayne, along with rapper BG, formed the group "The BG'z", and both created a lot of new songs for Cash Money Records. Eventually, Lil' Wayne moved to another group, "Hot Boys", which also created hits, before moving on.
Soon, at the young age of 17, Lil' Wayne would go on a solo career, releasing his first solo album, "The Block is Hot". This album reached #3 on Billboard charts, and earned him a nomination for Best New Artist in Source magazine. These two things combined certified Lil' Wayne, at the time, one of hip-hop's top young artists.
But when the year 2000 came, though, Lil' Wayne's career suddenly slowed down, despite good albums ales, due to the criticisms made by critics and fans alike, about his songs. They were said to have weak lyrics, narratives that were not compelling at all, and lacked the maturity that was expected from a hip-hop artist of his age. When 2004 saw the release of his album, "Tha Carter", however, Lil' Wayne's career turned for the better, as the album was praised by fans and critics alike.
And since then Lil' Wayne continued his rise. He's collaborated with some of music's biggest names, like Destiny's Child, Usher, T-Pain, and more. And he also followed up his album with "Tha Carter II", making sure the next generation knows his name, for many years to come.
