Improve Your Photography With This Great Advice

by Maisha Fagerquist

So, you're keen to get into photography? Well, now is a good a time as any; high-power digital cameras have never been more affordable. You probably have a lot of questions on how to start and what to do, but don't worry, this article can help. Listed below are some tips that will help you get started with your photography aspirations.

Shoot and aim quickly. If you are taking a picture of an object that is moving, or could move suddenly (such as a perched bird) take the first photo as quickly as possible. This ensures you have at least one photo of your subject, even if it is not perfect. Once you grab the initial shot, if the subject allows for it, you can take a second, more carefully aimed picture. It is better to have several images to choose from than to spend precious seconds framing the first shot only to have your subject fly off.

You cannot take the perfect photograph if you do not have your camera, so keep it on you at all times. That amazing photo op can happen at any moment; and chances are, you are not going to have time to go back home and get your camera. Whether the sun is setting perfectly over the river or you catch a furry critter doing something photo-worthy, you need to be prepared to get the shot quickly.

When photographing children, the best angle to take the picture from is their own eye level. Kneel down and put yourself at their height, snapping photos from the child's point of view. This will give you excellent pictures of a child, set in the world at their height. Most pictures of kids are taken looking down from an adult's point of view. This lends itself to many, many pictures of the top of a child's head or an awkward angle of their face.

Hold your camera at eye level. This better enables you to capture a personal and inviting image. For pets and animals this means getting right down to their level to take photographs but by doing so you will bring the viewer more intimately into the shot and evoke a more emotional response.

If you think you should not bother taking a photograph because everyone and his uncle have already taken the same shot, take it anyway. Put your own unique spin on it, and enjoy your photograph of the full autumn moon, the spring tulips at the park or the famous church downtown.

Use the tips and tricks provided in this article to help you with your photo efforts. While there is no real substitute for personal experience, you can certainly benefit from what others can teach you. Make your photos special! Turn a simple memory into art! Work on your skills to perfect the art of photography!
