Tips On Creating Hip Hop Tracks At Home

by Robert Gambillody

Many individuals these days, particularly teens and those in their twenties, prefer to listen and even make hip hop songs with rapping. With current computer technology and the number and assortment of computer or web-based music composition software and MIDI devices available today, you can now produce, edit, and upload your own songs as if you have your very own studio at home. Many of these music composition programs can be had for free, although obviously their feature set may not be as wide-ranging as those of paid versions. The good thing is, many of the music production software you can find today can be tested free of charge for a few weeks to a month as a demo version so you can determine if it is something that suits your needs and preferences.

If you require hip hop beats to use in your own music, the World Wide Web is a good place to start looking for them. Keep in mind that you should look at the license for a beat before working with it. Unless the beats or instrumental music you intend to use are expressly published as royalty-free, it is against the law to use them. The good thing is that a number of hip hop producers let you download their beats for free, and even allow you to do anything you wish to do with their beats just as long as you acknowledge them for their contribution.

Others however may require a fee before you can save the beats and instrumentals. There are also some producers who don't allow that their beats be used for commercial purposes.

There are lots of websites where you can download these rap instrumentals. A number of hip hop musicians both up-and-coming and established share their productions on those platforms. You can listen to streaming audio on these sites, and much of these files can be saved to your computer in top quality format. If the beat or instrumental music you want to use can't be downloaded, you could try sending a message to the one who produced it to ask if you can use it. Most of the time, they will be pleased to send you the file. You may also use these websites to publish your own tracks so you can receive comments from other members so you can also improve your skills.

Just remember to fully honor the intellectual property of other people. If you intend to sell your beat, be sure to get authorization of any artist whose samples appear in your work. If you end up earning money from a beat or instrumental music you used without authorization, you could be charged.

If you require rap instrumentals to use in your own songs, the World Wide Web is a good resource. Click here for pointers when using these beats.
