The Gaming Revolution On Mac Computers
by Mathew Jonathally
More than a decade ago, searching for a game playable on Macs led only to disappointment primarily because in those days such games were scarce. Although Apple has become popular for the modern design and the user-friendliness of their Mac line, the inability or difficulty to use third-party hardware and their relatively fewer customization opportunities made developing games for it relatively difficult.
Apple's rigid thinking to computer development has also discouraged many people who are into gaming from getting a Mac. One more reason why Macs really were not considered as an appealing gaming platform is that it was only in the first five years of the 21st century when Apple made a decision to replace their PowerPC processors with Intel-based ones and offered multiple button support for mice and standalone graphic cards which have long been regarded as de facto standards for Windows-based computers since the gaming industry boom in the 90s.
Macs have been often considered as generally superior at graphics, developing animation, and editing different kinds of media compared to PCs , hence consumers felt that it was such a waste that it didn't rival the latter in terms of gaming. Fortunately, Apple has been opening up to the exciting world of video gaming. For instance, the company has offered Boot Camp with their OSX 10.4 Tiger release that allowed people to partition their computers and use a Windows OS and thus have the best of both worlds - a user-friendly and ogle-worthy Mac and the excellent customization opportunities of a Windows system.
The roll-out of Steam service, which helped bring a spectacular repository of casual and advanced games for Mac, has also elevated the appeal of Macs as a gaming system. Some game developers are also going with this change and have made games which are natively playable on Mac computers. There are also Windows-based games that are ported to Mac through third-party porting services which include MacPlay.
These days, one could already enjoy Mac flight simulators which in the past were only enjoyed by Windows users. The best thing about these simulator games is that they give people an ability to try something they otherwise would not be able to do in the real world, like flying a plane or operating a race car. Similar to those playable on PCs, these simulator games provide a variety of challenges with primary and secondary aims.
Offline retail shops still do not carry a lot of gaming titles for Mac though because Mac gaming is not yet as popular. That in mind, if you want to get flight simulators for Macs, your best choice would be to search and buy from online stores through Steam and other niche websites that provide games free of charge or for a fee.
