"The Mummy Game: Carry On The Movie
by Jaclyn Z. Stewart
The Mummy, released in 1999, was a box office hit; based upon the movies, The Mummy Game begins where the movie series end at the Oasis of Ahm Shere, where Rick O'Connell vanquished the Scorpion King. The new plot is still centered upon love and loss, when in the 1930's a heroine matched to Evelyn is afflicted by a mysterious illness brought forth from an expedition she was on. These rocks were coveted by Ramses, called "The Stones of Rancor," and her adoring husband must now travel a rough and difficult road to unearth her cure.
The Mummy Game is not limited to just the husband role; several various combinations of levels and characters have been invented to best suit any player. Female brawlers or male archaeologists are a few examples; gender interchanging stands good for any character, on any side, whether fighting for good or bad. The recognition of the movie plots also lead to the return of the well-known adversaries, including the Anubis warriors with the jackal heads and scary mummies. Published information on the game boasts the fact that it was also designed hand in hand with movie scenery and includes sound clips from the films as well.
The Anubis warriors that Rick once imprisoned back into the sands will come to life once again with the conjuring of a wicked princess by the name of Masika. Just as Imhotep sought after the warriors for his own world conquer, so will Masika, and it is up to the player to save the world or join the dark side to help take it over. The intricate storylines of the game include a sundry of archaic relics, weapons, atlases, and personalities.
The pigmy scene in the second installment was an intense fight scene- just as the game stays accurate to the movies the Oasis of Amunet will be an interesting level to complete. These man-eating opponents back down to no mortal- armed with sharp javelins, they are ready to jump from a hidden spot and pierce their enemies. Another concern for players they must not forget is the swarm of scarabs throughout all of Amarna, which is the setting for The Mummy Game. The aforementioned threats can be emncountered in all the maps, including the Ruins of Tabari and the Bazaar, incorporating the mummies and Anubis warriors- as well as life-sized scorpions with venomous stingers.
