How To Work Towards An Adventure Race After Injury

by Rob Sutter

Athletes commonly go about injuries, which is unfortunate for a number of reasons. You have to keep in mind that they're going to have to stay on the sidelines until they are well but what about the healing process? Sometimes individuals do not go about this as well as they should, meaning that their level of conditioning is not going to be one that many would considered substantial. You may come back to an adventure race or not but here are some ideas to keep in mind.

Does this necessarily mean that you cannot work out as much as you would like, though? Well, keep in mind that there is a level of intensity that you should set a limit at because you never want to get to a point where you're hurting yourself in the process. Working out is important but not at the cost of hurting yourself further, straining compromised parts of the body in the process. I have seen runners who were hurt engage in swimming to stay moderately fit.

Of course, you're going to gradually increase the amount of intensity that you implement into the types of exercise that you take up. As you do this, though, make sure that you keep in touch with your trainer so that you have a general idea of where your regimen should go next. This may be able to help you out more than you would have thought possible. Along with the orders from a doctor, keeping your ears open is arguably the most essential aspect I can tell you about.

You're going to have to listen to a number of people en route to getting involved in an adventure race once again. While you may find that your passion is in events like Spartan Race, why push yourself too hard when it's clear that you're being told not to? You do not want to return to the athletic scene until you are 100%, ready to give it your all without fear of injury. It's worth coming back fresh, all the while avoiding any instance of an injury coming about shortly thereafter.

There's no more of an important process in the world of sports than rehab. This goes for just about any kind of event you can consider, whether it's an adventure race or what have you. The truth is that you do not want to push yourself too hard, especially if you've suffered a tear, fracture, or break. It is more than worth pulling back on the exercise you go about doing so that, in time, you will be able to come back with much better conditioning overall.
