Why be a Witch or follow Wicca when you could be a Sorcerer?

by Malcolm Grandis

Wicca is a largely manufactured religion. This statement is guaranteed to get any witch hopping mad but it is completely true. The fact is that the real witches were wiped out in the European witchcraft hysteria and executions in the middle ages. Modern Wicca is largely the invention of a man called Gerald Garder and a few other contributors who fantasised about what a pagan goddess religion should be like. But without much of the blood and Gore we know was a part of everyday pagan religious worship. This was to be a new Paggan Wicca religion for the 1960s.

Wicca cannot claim an unbroken chain of initiation from ancient times, unlike many magickal societies and groups. The Freemasons can trace their origins all the way back to the Knights Templar and Gnostic Christian groups. Wicca can trace its origins back only as far as about 1946. Despite this you will find the magick in the craft does work. Why does it work and how could it work? Perhaps sorcery has the answer, and you dont have to give up wicca to be a sorcerer. Sorcery is magic, wicca is a religion.

Many say magick is all about transforming the witch, or sorcerer from within, making them a better person. It is held forth by these people that we should not seek material results, material gain, or even real results in this very real world. In reality this is easily demonstrated to be untrue. Magick of all types is for reaching out to, and affecting, people, animals, plants, and objects in the real world. So many exceedingly rich people have practiced magick and freemasonry for so many years that we must conclude that it does work, it is real, and it does have real effects.

Sorcery melds Magick from many different traditions into a powerful mix containing the best practices from all that work. Following any particular belief system is not a requirement, magick just works for everybody that has the gift for it. Watch the film 'The Secret' or read the book then you will have some tiny knowledge of what is possible for the initiate. Sorcery is the 'Jeet Kune Do' to wiccas Judo and Voodoos Karate.

Many people frown on the idea of using magick for material gain, making people fall in love, or give you a job. When you go for that important interview you wear your best clothes and are on your best behaviour. Maybe you wear an article of clothing or carry something you consider lucky. You are trying to influence the interviewer to give you that job, admit it! You are influencing people all the time by how you dress, how you talk, what you say, and even how you eat! Like that research on the web, extra-subtle perfume, or plastic inserts slipped under the breasts, or hair removal cream, magick is just another unseen tool.

Sorcery is based on there being basically three levels, the divine (where Gods/Goddesses and pure spirit lives), The Astral (where disembodied entities of all kinds live) and the Physical which is where we are now, usually represented as herbs, incense and offerings. For a working to be truly powerful, then it must impact all three planes. too often people conduct a working and neglect the physical plane and are surprised when results refuse to materialise in real life and come instead in dreams.

Innominandum, real name Jason Miller, is the American author of two fantastic magical textbooks that are available worldwide online and in book stores such as Foyles.
