Renovating what is probably the most used room in the home, being the bathroom or powder room, does not have to be a very expensive undertaking. The first thing to do is observe the room as it is, looking at the main features such as the bathtub, the shower, the toilet and sink. If they are in good condition, then they don't need to be replaced. However, the sink may look outdated, and so should probably be replaced with something more up to date.
In older homes, the tiling may be right up to the ceiling, and that can really make the room look outdated. To remedy this, it is a matter of removing the tiles. Try to do so carefully so as to not damage the drywall behind them. The surface of the drywall will be rough and so, if a smooth surface is the goal, the drywall needs replacement.
However, one can leave drywall in the rough condition, add more plaster to give a rough finish. Then, it is a matter of applying a paint technique that will make the walls look old. There are lots of paint techniques that you can try, and most of them are easy. Just do the research and follow the steps.
The floor can be left alone, but again we are under the impression that it is still in decent condition. The vanity should be painted, either a new color, or a similar one, just to make it look new again.
Take a step further and change the handles on the cabinets and drawers. Then, it's a matter of decorating the space with new towels, a new shower curtain and a rug, ensuring that the all time in well together.
