Using Tea Tree Oil For Nappy Rash And Assorted Ailments

by Rebecca Carson

Tea tree oil is a natural lotion that possesses healing properties. Many people make use of tea tree oil for nappy rash, dandruff or acne, among other conditions. With specific reference to the named conditions, though, it is worthwhile to look into the origins and functions of this Australian oil.

An Aboriginal tribe from New South Wales known as the Bundjalung are responsible for creating the oil. They created it by distilling leaves of the Melaleuca plant. This plant's leaves are also used to make tea, which was how the balm received its name.

While the tea may be drank, however, the oil may not as it is poisonous. It can only be used externally. A similar ointment to this Aboriginal concoction is lavender oil. Both are anti-inflammatory agents, able to heal burn wounds when applied. Both are analgesics, able to relieve aches and pains. However, in the case of treating irritated baby skin, the tea tree oil differs from its lavender counterpart in that it must be mixed with another oil, such as olive or apricot, before being applied.

In using the oil to remove nappy rash, you should use a light coat of the mixture on the irritated skin. This procedure should be followed on a daily basis until the rash has vanished. As the balm also has antiseptic qualities, you can be assured of its effectiveness.

When using the oil to get rid of acne, it is best to mix your facial wash with the balm and ensure that the parts of your skin where the acne is most concentrated are given due attention. Doing this two times a day will yield the best results. Should your skin become irritated after you have started treating it with oil, cease the treatment immediately.

To combat dandruff, you should add a few drops to the oil to the shampoo that you use every other day. This will help stimulate the follicles in your hair and clear the dandruff. Alternatively, you could apply it directly to your scalp every other day.

These are a few of the conditions that this naturally derived ointment can treat quite effectively. In more modern times, particularly with the disillusioned attitudes many people have towards the pharmaceutical industry, people are looking to more natural remedies. And of those available, tea tree oil is one of the more reliable products on offer.
