The Leatherman Super Tool and Leatherman MUT are both workhorses designed to take on the roughest jobs in their respective fields. The Supertool 300 is the multi-tool designed for the working man. The MUT is called the shooter's side kick. Both multi tools are rugged, versatile, and are perfectly capable of getting things done, and done well.
After a brief hiatus, Leatherman has brought back its award winning Super Tool lineup, first brought to market in the 90s. The Super Tool 300 is the current version and it is one tough and uncompromising implement. The hub of this powerhouse tool is its sleek, streamlined yet tough pliers, around which the rest of the multi tool is built. The pliers taper off to allow it to fit into small cracks and holes. The pliers head is removable so you can sharpen or replace it right then and there. The entire body is built out of stainless steel, and feels heavy and solid when gripped.
Even while wearing gloves, it's simple to get at the tools nestled in the handle because of the generous side cutouts. The handles are rolled and are comfortable to grip. The Super Tool 300 comes with 19 accesories tucked inside the handles. There are two blades: a 420HC clip point knife and a 420HC Sheepsfoot serrated knife. Wire cutters, strippers and crimpers are included, as are both regular and philips screwdrivers. Topping off the toolset are a file, saw, bottle and can openers, a ruler and an awl.
The military helped design and build the Leatherman MUT. It's the first multi tool designed to work for both military and civilian tactical shooters, and it proudly wears this military pedigree. A couple of spots on the MUT are threaded and intended for inserting cleaning rods and brushes, and all the screwdriver bits conform to US military and civilian sighting equipment protocol. The MUT was also created to be disassembled so that its most commonly used parts can be replaced quickly and on the fly.
The Leatherman MUT was designed to be the multi-tool to go with your firearm, and is suggested for use with the M-1, M-16, and AR-15 platforms. The MUT offers the same functionality as the other multi tools in the Leatherman product line. The external knife is a 420HC stainless steel combo straight and serrated blade. 18 tools make up its inventory, and since the MUT is a Leatherman you'll find a replaceable screwdriver tucked in the handle.
A genious idea is a changeable cutter that can be used to cut through 550 chord, strapping, zip ties, flexicuffs and a whole host of other strapping materials. A carabiner clip and a bottle opener are also tucked neatly inside the handle, and there is a small solid knob on one end that serves as a hammer. Even the MOLLE sheathe can be used as a 9 mm magazine clip. The Leatherman Super Tool and the MUT are exceptional tools, regardless of the working environment. They will naturally shine when used in the fields they were created for -- the Super Tool 300 for rugged outdoor work and the MUT as a neccesary tool for shooters.
