Practically everyone remembers and loves bean bags. They may have been around since the mid-1960s, but these well-known chairs really became famous in the 1970s. While many other icons from that time period have long been forgotten, these chairs are still quite popular with most people and can still be purchased in many stores.
If you asked today's adults about bean bag chairs, most would probably recall the iconic versions from their youth. After all, teens at that time spent endless amounts of time sitting around their rooms playing the newest music. Today's versions aren't really all that different. However, they now come in many more shapes, sizes, colors and fabrics.
Their spherical shape is probably what's most memorable about the 1970s version. There are many more shapes to choose from these days, although the original sphere shape is also still available. For those that prefer more room to lounge, but still want the original comfort, they would probably be happy with the recliner version of the chair. If you want something more modern, the clean lines of the cube chair might be more appropriate.
Today's bean bags are also available in a variety of sizes. Practically every new style comes in an adult-sized version. However, many of today's designs are also available in sizes that are perfect for children, and some are even made just for pets.
While the originals were available in a range of colors, after all it was the 1970s; today's versions are available in colors sure to match any decor. Of course, there are plenty of bright colors that would be perfect for a fun family room or a child's bedroom. However, today's designers have kept adults in mind by creating a range of stylish neutral and designer colors that will please everyone's tastes
Color and style are important design features, but let's not forget about fabrics. The originals were mostly made from a shiny vinyl material that looked great at first, but wasn't likely to hold up to everyday use for very long. Today's fabrics have come a long way, and not only are there plenty to choose from but new advancements in technology mean they're likely to last a very long time.
It is probably time that you upgraded your old bean bags with the newer versions available today. With all the new shapes, sizes, colors and fabrics, there is sure to be something you'll love. It is likely there will be something that suits everyone in the whole family, including the family pet.
