The history of Belly Dancing is full of controversies. This dance has been known to cover a number of centuries together with different places, but not expensive is known about its origins.
The actual dance received its name in the Chicago World Fair of 1893, when the popularity of the dance grew tremendously. One of many reasons for this was due to the controversy sparked by the belly professional dancer known as Little Egypt. Her dancing style focused more about the torso and pelvic and it was imitated by other people to such an extent that she protested the vulgar use of her style and blamed others regarding distorting her dance.
The particular name was coined through the promoter due to the diminished curiosity of people in the Egyptian type dance show. However, the dance was outlawed through the 1950s.
When Belly Dance was introduced in to the U.Azines., it first appeared around the famous stages of vaudeville and burlesque. The dancing acquired bad name by it's introduction into Hollywood in the form of a dance that was practiced by ill-reputed women and damsels who were inside distress. It has been found that this particular dancing technique began within the U.S. well before the Chicago World Fair. Nonetheless, it was in America that belly dancing received its revival. Soon, belly dancers were used because big source of entertainment in large city ethnic golf clubs in the 1950s.
By the 60s, a large number of belly dancers began offering lessons in the fine art. However, most of the dancers changed the form of the dance so that you can attract more learners, and this afflicted the popularity because the dance looked difficult to new learners. One more reason for the diminished popularity at the moment was due to the lack of any terminology or standard choreography linked to the dance.
