Diaper Rash And Your Baby
by Gardelee Benandanio
Diaper rash can be either mild or it may become severe and spread to the baby's thigh and reach unto the child's belly, if it becomes very severe. Diaper rash is usually only found in a few areas. Diaper rash is usually caused by wetness, of course many diaper manufacturers claim that their diapers are super absorbent but the majority of them do leave moisture behind, if you let your baby wear a diaper too long there is a good possibility that your baby will develop diaper rash, of course there is no guarantee, diaper rash may also occur even when the diaper is changed regularly.
Chafing may also cause diaper rash, chaffing occurs when the diaper rubs against the skin and irritates it. Sometimes the powder you are using may also irritate your baby. When babies start eating solid foods or any type of food they had never previously eaten, they can get diaper rash. Bear in mind also that when you are breastfeeding your child their skin can react negatively to some of the things in your diet. However babies who are breast fed tend to have less issues with diaper rash than formula fed babies, this is because they have smaller amounts of feces as opposed to formula fed babies. Feces often irritate the babies skin because the feces contain digestive enzymes, when these come in contact with the skin they can cause irritation.
Babies who have eczema are even more prone to getting diaper rash and if you or your baby are on antibiotics this can kill not only bad bacteria but all the good bacteria as well, creating a prime breeding ground for yeast which can cause a flare up in diaper rash. Some antibiotics trigger loose bowels as well, further irritating the babies skin and creating a prime breeding environment for diaper rash.
Babies who have eczema are even more likely to get diaper rash and if you or your young one are on antibiotics for any ailment this will not only destroy bad bacteria but the good ones as well making you both more open to getting a yeast infection and thereby triggering diaper rash in your baby.
If diaper rash continues and it becomes inflamed, with pus, blisters and sores then you must get your child to the doctor at once.
