Stamping provides you with a fun hobby thats low cost to enjoy. Since stamps are so abundant, with most being priced cheaply, you can collect them with ease. There are always new stamp coming out, allowing you to continually collect new stamps. I will list 5 easy tips below to help you make collecting and using stamps fun.
1. Purchasing Stamps
Collecting stamps can be very cheap as you need only a few dollars every week to build up an impressive collection. Digital stamps are issued at any Post Shop or you may buy them over the last one year through mail order from Post Shop Centre or else online. Moreover, you can buy digital and older stamps from stamp dealers.
2. Joining a Club
If you want to find out even more information about stamp collection, try joining a club. They are located in most big cities and even in some small towns and villages. There you will find unique information about stamp collecting. Also, these clubs have newsletters and magazines containing great information that you can subscribe to. Many clubs hold exciting stamp exhibitions and contest. You will find new ideals for your own stamp collection by attending these events.
3. What type of Stamps
There exists 2 types of stamps. Your first option is one country collection. The second is thematic collection. With one country collection, you collect your stamps from only one country. Thematic collection is where you collect all stamps from the same theme. Examples of these would be sports theme, animal themes, and so on. It is easier to start out collecting only one type. The reasons for this being 5-8 thousand new stamps get printed each year.
4. Stamping Albums
There are various stamp albums that you can use so as to carry out stamp collection as a professional. The best stamp album to use is the stock sheet albums that consist of loose leaf folders that have unique plastic pages in them as well as a number of strips running from corner to corner. These strips make several wide pockets whereby you can slip your stamps. The plastic pages are made up of a unique type of plastic that cannot discolor and shield your stamps.
5. Getting Your Stamps Prepared
Try to always handle each one of your stamps with care. Your stamps can be worth much in value. Don't cut the stamp when cutting parts off the envelops, as doing so can make a stamp worthless. Soak any gummed stamps before attempting to remove them from an envelope. After removal, dry them by putting them face up on clean blotting paper. If you are trying to remove self-adhesive stamps, soak them first in heated water mixed with soft soap. Do this for about 5 minutes. After this you can put the stamp in clean water for around 10 minutes to remove the soap. Never handle your stamps with your hands. Doing so could get sweat and oil on the stamp from your skin. Use tweezers in place of your hands. A good magnifying glass can be used to study your stamp closely. Also, a good perforation gauge can measure your jagged edges of your stamps.
