Wii is a seventh-generation console developed by Nintendo and released in 2006. Although only released six years ago, Wii has already become the best-selling console in the world, outselling Sony PlayStation and Microsoft Xbox 360. What made Wii so successful is that it has managed to capture the interest of current hardcore and casual gamers, non-gamers, and lapsed gamer by putting more emphasis on providing new gameplay experiences and new ways to interact with games instead of giving high-definition graphics and expensive technology.
Affordability is one of Wii's key strengths, and they are at least fifty dollars less than other consoles from the same generation available today. A distinguishing feature to Wii is that it has wireless controller, called the Wii remote, which can sense motion, thus enabling the user to interact with game characters, objects and environment through hand and arm movements.
One of the most impressive titles available for this console is the Harry Potter Wii created by video game developer Electronic Arts, Inc. The reason why Harry Potter Wii is so successful is because it is one of those games that effectively combined immersive 3D graphics, and equally engaging gameplay. The storyline and other aspects of the game take inspiration from the novel and the movie. Currently, there is at least one Harry Potter video game for each year in the novel's timeline bringing the total to 8, with at least three of them playable on Wii.
For younger players, Harry Potter Lego games are also available. Harry Potter Lego games are made by an English software house, Traveller's Tales. Harry Potter Lego games are also quite popular and like EA's offerings, are met with very favorable reviews. What makes both titles successful is that those playing in them can't help finding themselves reliving the Harry Potter's story, with them being full-fledged wizards as well, with a Wii remote functioning as their very own magic wand.
There are also Wii-exclusive titles like Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart, and The Legend of Zelda. Over the years, Wii has earned a reputation for giving addictive party games, fitness games, and shooting games which give the feel of light gun arcade games.
