With the growing concern of film tax credits, the world of media is experiencing a shift in paradigm. There are different reasons for such a change. The first reason is that new age directors and producers, are increasingly, looking for locations which aren't only beautiful but can also suit the story line and the theme of the movie or television show. Secondly, there has been such deluge of new productions hitting the floor year on year that people seem to have been left with a shortage of ideal locations.
Also, most of the conventional beautiful locations have already been used in the past and using them again doesn't provide the viewers with an experience that they might expect. Had it not been for the idea of a location libraries which could help people search and explore locations for films, television shows and others, the people in the media industry would have been in for a couple of serious retrospection.
Pulling off a professional production requires the area to make available all of the stuff needed to keep everybody comfortable. Aside from keeping the cast and staff well treated, they also have to be the standard anatomy of film production set up: adequate electrical hook-ups and power, high ceilings, lighting grid, cargo doors, and also area for production offices. You're casting your film with actors who have a lot of character, so why not find locations with character, too? Don't list generic locations like a bookstore or a restaurant; go with specific settings that will be memorable to your audience, such as a quaint boutique bookstore or a French caf with a patio overlooking a park. Does your lead character live in a small, messy apartment or a lavish house on gated grounds with an Olympic-sized swimming pool?
After you've satisfied all your technical needs, the aesthetic quality of the location should be considered, because a beautiful but remote and wild location with no electricity is basically useless as a film location. The area you choose should combine convenience with beauty as any film location scout will tell you that beauty is as beauty does when it comes to film locations, scenery and accessibility go hand in hand if you are to keep your operating costs down. One major advantage of shooting on a soundstage is that you can set up several interior sets for different locations in your script without having to move your whole production team. You can have a courtroom, a cellblock, an apartment, a coffee shop, and an interior fast-food restaurant all on the same soundstage.
There are a lot of extra details such as film tax credits associated with securing a location to shoot a movie than merely discovering the location. There are permission and releases to be acquired from everybody involved. Proof of liability insurance coverage and authorizations of entry to the circumstance could have to be acquired. The scout will convince the owner that having a one hundred fifty person crew camped out on their front lawn it going to be good fun.
