Cycling is a craze among Italians. Cycling fans visit Italy every year from all parts of the globe to have a marvellous cycling enjoyment. Comfortable weather and enchanting landscapes are the two vital factors that contribute to cycling activities in Italy.
The only worry in Italy that the cyclists encounter is that public transport such as trains, though not all, do not allow passengers on board with their bicycles as it is not the condition in countries like Spain and Switzerland.
Generally, the long distance national train services tend not to have bicycle compartments while almost all of the local train services do provide bicycle storage facilities on board their trains. The best thing to do if you are unconfident is to look for the bicycle logo on the side of the train which shows that there is a bicycle carriage on board.
It is forbidden to bring your bicycle in the passenger compartment on all trains in Italy. The cost of bringing your bicycle on board a train is quite cheap and the best option to go for is a one day bicycle pass which costs 3.50 Euros and allows you to take your bicycle on as many trains as you wish for one day. This is the best option if you are thinking about doing a few short cycling runs in one day and want to make use of the trains in between.
Weather in Italy is so conducive that it facilitates the cycling enthusiasts to relish their cycling stints throughout the year. Cycling in the northern Italian Alps during winter where snowfall is heavy is an exception. Though the country does not receive heavy rainfall it might suffice to carry with you a water proof top while cycling.
Italy is filled with hundreds of cycling paths that are well spread throughout the country that wherever you go you will find one. It is from the tourist information office of the towns in Italy that you get valid details about scenic cycling routes in Italy.
Tuscany is a great place for cyclists from all over the world as a result of the comfortable weather and a breath-taking countryside which it provides. If you are on the lookout for some additional pleasure then Florence, a beautiful town is quite nearby too.
The main cycling competition conducted in Italy is the Giro d'Italia which is held yearly in May. This long distance cycling competition is held in stages and lasts about three weeks in all. Skilled cyclists from all over the world come to compete in this competition which has been going since the 1930's; however, Italian cyclists have historically dominated this competition.
Just as little consideration is given to health and safety measures in case of Mediterranean fashion so is in the case with cycling too in Italy. Strict road rules are missing in Italy and it is up to the cyclist to take with him a helmet or a reflector while cycling. For safety precautions it is desirable to carry them while cycling in Italy.
