A bright light outside a window can also produce similar results. However, it's important to remember that unfavorable features may be emphasized in the outline of someone's body or face.
Lighting will not always be on your side when you are shooting landscape. There will be times in which it is impossible to get an ideal shot. What should you do in this situation? Try using a program, like Photoshop, to create a gradient filter to counterbalance any contrasting light.
