Tips To Choose The Right Sparring Gear

by Martha E Dorrem

Sparring sessions are a crucial part of any martial arts training. It is when a martial artist's strength, skills and techniques are put to the test after all, you would be hard pressed to find a training center that will not have you undergo sparring sessions. You will be hard pressed to find a school that doesn't require its students to undergo sparring sessions. Prior to participating in one however, it is very important to ask yourself a question. Do you not have the right sparring gear to begin with?

But you shouldn't have difficulty finding sparring equipment and gear these days. Not when there are hundreds of stores you can buy your equipment from. Obviously, availability isn't a problem; the challenge is finding the right gear to invest in. There are a number of things you can do to find such equipment. To start with, ask your instructor for recommendations about what gear to buy and where you can buy them from.

This is important because they will know the standard or quality you should look for in the gear you will buy. Furthermore, they are in a good position to tell you what type of gear is allowed and what isn't. This way, you can avoid having your martial arts uniforms and sparring equipment rejected by your instructor. Consider the specific martial art you are undergoing training for.

Another important thing to keep in mind is knowing what type of materials they are made from. In fact, sparring gear is generally made from three popular materials. Cloth, vinyl or foam. Cloth is the most affordable, comfortable and the easiest to find, although the drawback of course is it doesn't offer much as far as support and protection goes.

Foam on the other hand, provides the utmost protection as it cushions blows effectively. Foam's drawback is it is heavier, which makes it difficult for a person to move around. Vinyl is a favorite among martial artists because it is light enough for you to easily to move around in, provides sufficient support and absorbs sweat effectively.

In addition, buy your karate belts, sparring gear and everything you need from reliable suppliers. After all, you need to end up with quality sparring equipment and martial arts gear. Keep in mind that the gear you wear during these sparring sessions is as important as the training you are undergoing.
