You can experience the fun of a space MMO, or massively multiplayer online game, together with hundreds of other players who are also playing in the same virtual world. Internet games have created an entirely new genre of games; in the early days of video games, most games only allowed one or two players to use the game at a time but now thousands of people can log online and interact within the same game. This is achieved because of international servers that connect players from literally every corner of the globe; players around the world can stay connected to their favorite game 24 hours a day. Networked multiplayer video games have a rich history and have come a long way from the early days when the Internet was still in its infancy.

The history of space MMO games has its core in the mid 1970's when designers were starting to make use of networked computers to link players in the same virtual game. The genre of space themed games first entered the world of multiplayer gaming in 1974 with the release of Spasim, a game that use sci-fi elements in its interface. Up to 15 unique players were able to interact while playing Spaism across a network; they could also chat using a special in-game system. The chat systems that are essential features of modern MMO's have their roots in these original multiplayer games.

Video game developers began to realize that space MMO's represented a substantial money making opportunity, especially with the Internet becoming more popular and easily accessible in the 1990's. In the early 1990's there were many regulations that prevented commercial gaming on the Internet so there were very few options for games who wanted to interact in virtual games; some games were popular during this time, however, and charged hourly rates over private gaming networks.

Web regulations were eventually adjusted and gaming developers were able to make more accessible MMO's for their gaming fans. These new games allowed you to use your PC to run the game while also connected with other gamers through the developer's network. The new MMO's allowed people to play individually, with others, and chat all through one immense gaming system.

Massively multiplayer online games are now huge business for gaming companies, with millions of subscribers logging onto these games around the world. Space MMO games have been popular since the beginning of online gaming history when graphics were simple; now space games represent some of the most advanced graphics of all.
