Chemical Pregnancy

A chemical pregnancy is the term given to a pregnancy that ends very early in the first trimester. Chemical pregnancies are confirmed by testing for the levels of HCG in the body, these are the hormones that indicate the presence of a pregnancy.
Chemical Pregnancies occur frequently and often are unknown. Because the loss of the pregnancy occurs so early in the trimester it can go completely unnoticed. With pregnancy tests improving more and more chemical pregnancies are detected. Hormone levels can peak unnaturally at the very beginning of the first Trimester giving a 'fake' reading. This can lead to hopes of pregnancy that are subsequently dashed.
The reason that a Chemical Pregnancy happens is uncertain but it is believed that chromosome mis-matches are the most common causes. It is thought that these are detected by the body at a very early stage and that the body naturally rejects abnormal chromosomes.
Luteal Phase defects and chromosome deficiency can be attributed to miscarriage together with hormone deificiencies. The latter can be addressed medically.
Suferers of a Chemical Pregnancy should not be concernerd that this may indicate long term problems. Healthy women capable of conception and full term pregnancy can suffer chemical pregnancies. Even women who are concerned after more than one Chemical Pregnancy has occurred can find that treatment can resolve the problem.
For persistent sufferers medical attention should be sought and some intervention may be possible. Any underlying reproductive issue can be investigated and treatment given. It is often (although not always) the case that after investigation the cause of Chemical Pregnancies can be identified.
