Making Money From Photography

by Anthony Walker

Cameras nowadays are so much cheaper than they were ten years ago. And they are most likely going to get less costly and yet more advanced in the next couple of years. At this stage, it is little wonder to see more camera-toting persons shifting from amateur to serious amateur to professional. Most of them opt for weddings and events coverage too, mainly because they are the most competitive, progressive, and profitable in the business of photography.

If you started your photography hobby years before, you might have witnessed this boom, shot with many other photographers in the past, some of whom may have turned their hobbies into professions. Most likely you also know how costly a hobby it is, particularly if you decide to keep yourself updated with the latest lenses and accessories. But you also know that whether for business or pleasure, photography is something you enjoy doing every single time.

So if you do decide to monetise this hobby of yours, how can you start? The first and most important consideration, of course, is your ability as a photographer. Are your skills profitable in the sense that people will pay you to have their photos taken, their weddings covered, their children photographed?

Get reactions from friends and acquaintances, and probably even strangers, from photography communities, forums and social media. The more advice you get, the more comprehension you grasp of your ability as perceived by others. Consider this a start to the social facet of the business as well. Transacting with people you've met for the first time, after all, is something photographers do all the time.

Do you have ample experience photographing weddings on the side to fully shift into a Wedding Photographer? Besides, the demands of Bridal Photography are varied, and most photographers would even say tricky to achieve each time. As it is, you're transacting with a different couple each time, a different light, venue, and so on. Everything is different, and you should outstandingly adapt yourself to everything that wedding photography has in store for you.
