Unique Garden Decor For Your Backyard

by Marisol Guy

You can make your outdoor space your own by adding your personal touches through unique garden decor. All it takes is an open mind, a little creativity and specific budget. You can have the backyard of your dreams by following these suggestions.

The first step that needs to be taken is to select a theme. It could be anything that you or your family is interested in. You may be taken with fairies and can use them throughout the yard. They can hang from trees or be places as statues in flower beds. Greek mythology may be your passion. Statues of Greek figures could be placed strategically around the patio and flower beds. A fountain could even feature a Greek god.

Sit down and budget a specific amount of money for this project and then stick to this plan. You will not enjoy an atmosphere that will sink you deep in debt. Sometimes all that is needed is small changes that you can easily handle yourself. Paint can do wonders on wooden furniture and pots and planters. Small accents such as gazing balls, statues, metal flower bed borders, small water fountains, basic pieces of furniture are relatively inexpensive and are easily picked up at end-of-season sales and discount centers.

Select items that fit your personality and match the style of your home and existing landmarks. If you have an older home and love antiques, pick pieces up at auctions and tag sales that will be used in your project. Old galvanized buckets, wine crates, a red wagon, or an antique bicycle can all be integrated into your landscaping scheme. If you have a more modern home and mindset, select items with clean, sharp lines that will match the surroundings.

Arrange your backyard into areas. One corner may be a vegetable garden with an engaging scarecrow or hovering owl. Another can be floral cutting beds with wrought iron plant markers highlighting specific flowers. Your patio dining area can be a burst of color with over-sized pots of bright blooms. Create a living area with planters built into your side and coffee tables.

Decide whether or not to use cushions with your furniture. They can provide extra pops of color and definitely more comfortable seating but do not always hold up to bad weather. Other seating such as benches and chairs throughout the backyard can provide solitary moments away from guests if necessary.

Lighting can add so much to the atmosphere you wish to create. For a whimsical and enchanting touch, add twinkle lights to bushes and trees. For a more modern look, solar lighting alongside garden pathways will light the way for guests and family. Old fashioned lanterns will give lingerers extra time after dark has fallen.

When you are finished adding all of the accents, you will have an outdoor area that you can be proud of. Entertain and show off all of the results of your hard work to your family and friends.
