If You Want To Improve Your Writing Capabilities Then Feedback Is Unquestionably Vital

by Raymond Walter Rodriguez

If you are a writer, it's tough to get started. On one hand, it can be tough to think of stuff to write all the time. Sure, many people write, but it's to put it off. You've got to be very motivated, because unless you are very lucky, it's going to take a bit of time before you see your first payday.

One of the toughest challenges writers face is getting some kind of objective feedback. This is absolutely essential. No matter what kind of a writer you are, you've got to get feedback. Relying on your friends won't help. Relying on your mom won't help. You've got to measure yourself against some standard if you ever hope to make a good living. Consistent improvement is essential.

Other people in other jobs have it easy. If you are a programmer, for example, your programs either do what they are supposed to, or they don't. If you are a bricklayer, you can stand back and take a look at your creation. But as a writer, reading your own stuff is not the best way to get objective feedback. And without objective feedback on a consistent basis, you aren't getting any better.

One way to get feedback as a writer is to start publishing on a blog. Many beginning writers are afraid to do this, but in reality there's nothing to be scared of. Just keep writing and publishing on a daily basis. This will help you determine which of your pieces are better than others. Just watch your traffic flow, and measure how people interact with your blog.

Article directories are another great way to quickly tell if you're any good or not. These will get you a lot more traffic, and people are more inclined to interact with a well known article directory than a blog that just sprang up out of nowhere. Also, you'll have access to a whole host of statistics that will tell you how you are doing.

Those that make the big cash are copywriters. If you're gunning for some high six figure paydays, then you'll need to polish your copywriting skills. Luckily, this is the easiest thing to improve upon. Just try and sell something. The higher your conversions, the more stuff you are selling. And the higher your conversions, the more money you'll be able to command for your services. This is the Holy Grail when it comes to non-fiction writing.

One word of caution, however, if you are choosing to do down the copywriting path. It's very easy to blame low conversions on everything except your skills. But the truth is that a good copywriter should be able to take any product, any website, and make it shine. So long as you take ownership of the outcome your create, you'll be a world class writer in no time, regardless of which path you choose.
