Photography Tips For Covering Your First Wedding Ceremony
by Ericka Jackson
So it's your first time to cover a wedding. Whether you are shooting on the side or just turned pro and about to shoot your very first official client, you're bound to feel as much jitters as the couple about to wed. Follow these photography tips to make your first field day a success.
Prepare all your gear. It's true that the excellence of wedding photos you would produce would vary on numerous factors, most important of which is your skill as a photographer. But without sufficient memory cards, fully charged batteries, and the proper lenses, your skill would go to waste for the day and your camera will never serve its purpose properly. So check, and check once again, all your photographic gear before heading out. Ensure you have formatted your memory cards and brought enough to cover the event; charge your batteries; ready all the lenses you need; and do some test shots with your camera.
Have an assistant photographer with you, and most of the time, a second camera body too. Having an assistant photographer will make sure you cover more ground and produce more diverse shots in the process. Set up a work plan and discuss this with your co-shooter, just like who shoots which parts and what kinds of shots are expected from each one. This is just to avoid shooting the same subjects using the same angles. As for you, it's always better to utilise two camera bodies, one with a wide angle and another with a telephoto to avoid having to change lenses in the middle of all the action.
Shoot low, and pay careful attention to details. Take different angles because it's only when you get to the part when you need to choose the shots for printing that you understand the utility of having more choices rather than just a handful. Take macro shots, close-ups, bird's eye view shots, and do not forget to shoot from the hip and from down low.
Lastly, shoot RAW. Every <a href='http://www.raymondphang.com/'>Wedding Photographer</a> should never debate on the utility of the RAW format. You are going to print your photos, so might as well take as much detail as you could in each shot. This is something your camera's RAW shooting function will easily cover. <a href='http://www.raymondphang.com/bridal-photography.html'>Bridal Photography</a> is serious business, and you cannot afford to work on compressed JPEGs alone.
