The Summertime and How a City Bike Can Help
by Rob Sutter
We are now in the month of November and, as a result, I don't see city bike usage moving upward. I can't name many people who want to ride their bicycles in this bitter cold weather aside from those who are hardcore about cycling or have no other means of transportation. The fact that the weather is becoming colder cannot be ignored and these bikes need to be stored away. They can come out during the springtime, for sure, but what will it hurt to plan for the day?
As soon as I have a city bike in my hands, I want to make sure that there are places made for cycling. After all, cycling authorities such as Linus aren't in the business simply to sell bicycles and they know that there are areas in the world tailor made for this hobby. Enter San Francisco, where biking is seemingly more common than anyplace else. There are over 40,000 commuters utilizing sixty different roads. People can get involved and travel in an area where commuter biking is seemingly the norm.
Think about just how other locations are adapting in order to accomodate cyclists as well. A few months ago, it was reported that Copenhagen, Demark had opened up its first superhighway in a series of 26 planned. This is something to make note of, not just because Copenhagen is considered to be the safe haven of those who enjoy cycling. Rather, it's an example of where we may be later on down the road if these superhighways multiply throughout the world.
In fact, it seems like other countries have gotten in on the action as well and this may be useful for those who are looking to travel. Sweden has recently announced it is going to construct a major artery which would connect two major cities together. This very artery would be used for cyclists alone and this idea certainly goes to show that it's not limited to just one area of the world. Other places have incorporated it, showing just how strong the snowball effect truly is.
There's a healthy lifestyle being showcases with this living style and a carbon footprint has the chance to be lessened due to cycling. These very road arteries can benefit city bikers quite nicely, especially once the nicer weather comes into fruition. A person should be on the lookout for their prime conditions and through cycling those can be achieved. Furthermore, this is a hobby that can be taken advantage of by just about anyone, so it's best not to waste any more time.
