Balancing the Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura)

by George Davis

The solar plexus chakra is one of the most influential in the formulation of personality. The combination of power, will and action is a persuasive triad. Here, you have the power to determine the underlying intent behind your actions and, thus, the ability to bring balance or imbalance to this chakra. A strong ego can create a strong-willed, selfish and aggressive personality. In balance, you can be cooperative, flexible and caring.

If you choose the latter ego-centric path, your imbalance is likely due to an emotional imbalance. Insecurities and a low self-esteem manifest themselves through an overactive ego. As a result, the solar plexus chakra is full of negative impurities and energy blockages. Self-esteem is determined at the solar plexus chakra. In contrast, a tolerant, accepting and cooperative use of power and will reflects one with confidence and high self-esteem.

Compassionate intent, or right or good intent, meditation can help develop a positive disposition. In Kundalini meditation, the concept of Abhyssa involves cultivating a conviction to engage in actions, thoughts and speech that lead to tranquility. Tibetan Buddhists consciously place a good intent and compassion behind all that they do, including meditation.

Mantras - The solar plexus chakra mantra is Ram. When you repeat it, the vibration should resonate with the navel chakra. If it does not, ensure you are in tune. It corresponds with the music note E. Music, including Chakra meditation recordings, frequency generators and singing bowls can help you tune to the right frequency. Yantras - Since ancient times, meditating to the vibrations of sacred geometry has been practiced to balance the chakras. A Yantra is a symbol that may link up to an astrological sign, planet, date or something else of meaning to you. The solar plexus chakra yantra is a triangle.

Mandelas - Mandelas are three-dimensional sacred artworks that contain a variety of geometric shapes. Like a coil, as the meditator focuses on the main shape as it gets smaller and smaller (typically a circle or square), he or she moves through a series of gates, symbolically accessing deeper levels of meditation. You may find mandelas with shapes, colors and themes related to the solar plexus chakra-such as power and self-esteem-to be useful balancing tools. Each chakra has a simple two-dimensional mandela based on the lotus flower. Gemstones - The color for the solar plexus chakra is yellow. The gemstone amber is associated with this chakra. Others include the tiger's eye and citrine.
