For you to check for a metallic object on the ground, you need to have a device of electromagnetic nature commonly referred to as a metal detector. This device is used for maintaining security by checking for the presence of weapons made of conducting materials that people carry in their vehicles or bodies. Other people use them for fun. They use them to pick up things from the ground which is referred to as treasure hunting.
In the nineteenth century, this device was invented for the purpose of discovering iron ores. It consumed a lot of energy and was therefore not a viable tool. As time went on, better ones were made. Some were used to collect what astronauts had left. Others were used to detect landmines left after a war.
It is used by archaeology experts to check for clues in the ground like treasures. Laws governing this procedure require that the treasures found to be submitted to the authority for the purpose of preservation. Many of course who use the metal detectors for their favorite hobby, finding treasures such as gold, coins or other bounty. Some of the activities people use with it include coin searching and beach combing. They collect old coins and other metal objects left by tourists in the beach.
Security metal detectors of course use the same basic premise. This is the reason why there are security devises used to scan people and their luggage as they enter buildings and taking frights. This gadget can either be hand held or placed on doors. When they detect a metallic object, they produce a sharp sound revealing the presence of that object.
In the industries, the device is used to check for any contamination of metals. In the garment industries, it checks for the possibility of broken needles or pins left on the fabric before it is packed. In the food industries, there can be chips of metals that may drop on the food as it was being processed. Other industries include the chemical industries and the packaging ones.
The electromagnetic system in these devises can be used in two states. The first one is the active state while the second is the passive states. One of the main parts of the device is the coils. There are three of them allowing transmission of amplified modulation signals. One of the coils is a transmitter while the other two are receivers. A magnetic field always produces after an alternating current is passed through the coils. This alternating current is formed by an oscillator.
This device makes an alternating current when it meets a conducting object. It then produces a magnetic field. The receiver coil then is able to detect some changes in the magnetic field which indicates a metallic object is present. It will then transfer this signals to an electronic box. This box has a speaker in it to produce sounds when a conducting object is found. It amplifies the signals.
Metal detectors are used for both security and fun purposes. One can shop for one from the internet or stores. The cost depends on the company making it and its magnitude. Those that are mounted on doors are more expensive since the require additional fixtures.
