Night photography, is a whole different ballgame. If there's not enough natural light for your photograph, take the time to set up the scene with as many alternative resources as you need. Proper exposure procedures include slower shutter speeds and changing your aperture settings.
A lot of people think beautiful, sunny days are good pictures, but direct sunlight can actually harm a photo sometimes. Direct sunlight creates awkward shadowing, as well as annoying glares. If you face your subjects into direct sunlight, they will squint and take unattractive pictures. The best times of day for you to take outdoor photos are in the early morning, when the sun is weakest, or late evening, when it is going down.
You don't always need your photos to be made with the camera horizontal. Snap a picture by turning your camera vertically, and you may be surprised at the results. If you want to fill the entire frame with your subject, zoom in close to it, or if your subject is a person and you want a full head and body shot, try zooming out to your desired perspective.
To turn photography into a lifelong hobby, it is vital that you invest in the best camera equipment. The brand name is not as important as the features available on the camera.
Get closer to your subject. When framing a picture, zoom in or move physically closer to the focal point of your shot. Make sure the subject fills the frame. Too much background, no matter how scenic, can detract from the focus of the image. Details are more apparent and inviting when subjects are close.
Make sure that your camera is adjusted correctly whenever you are taking pictures of fast moving objects. One way you can do this is by setting the ISO higher. This setting will create clearer photos of fast moving subjects.
If you are trying to take a picture of a child, you might just have to do it on their terms. Children are constantly on the move, and it can be difficult getting them to stay in one place for a picture. Instead, have some photography fun, and catch them in action.
Focus your camera with the subject in the middle and then shift it to the left or right before taking the picture. Centering a subject in a picture is an expected tactic and may detract from the interest of the photo. Take interesting pictures by making the subject off center.
