Photograph human subjects. Ask permission before photographing anyone. Pictures like these help you to find more vivid memories when you look back, even if at the time the people seemed unremarkable. When selecting people to photograph, always look for those dressed casually and sporting candid expressions.
Your image sensor settings (ISO) can help you get very good shots if you know how to work with them. If not, they can sabotage your pictures quickly. The more the ISO is the higher you can view, that means all aspects of the photo. If this is not an effect you are consciously aiming for, visible grain can make your photo look awful.
With most photos, you will have to make the choice of how to properly expose highlights and shadows in the photograph. If you so choose, you can take two different pictures with different effects, and blend them together using programs such as Photoshop.
Make your shutter speed higher if want to take pictures in dark settings. You will not get a blurry photo by doing so. Go with 1/200 or 1/250 setting on your shutter speed.
Don't hesitate when taking photos; however, squeeze the trigger, don't jerk it. The moment you want to capture is not going to last, so be prepared. The moment can be gone when smiles get weary, children and pets get restless, or the scene changes. Don't spend all your time fiddling with settings while letting the opportunity for the shot slip away.
If you are photographing a person or a group of people, remember to take the shot from eye level. This gives a direct feel for the person's presence in the resulting photograph. Accomplishing this with children may require you to get down on your knees.
When you begin photography, understand balance or the color of light in your shots. Implementing correct lighting will give you look you want by manipulating the color shades.
Photography is an art, and the photographer needs to ensure that the message they are attempting to get across is accurately portrayed. Composition can make or break a shot, so this is a skill a novice photographer needs to learn quickly. Photographic images that can be interpreted correctly by viewers are the ones that make an impact.
