Picture Perfect Memories: Photography Tips

by Brett Finn Sanchez

Take the time to make anyone who models for you comfortable, and this is especially true if they are not familiar with you. Many people tend to see someone taking photos as a threat. Be engaging, talk to them and ask for their permission to take their pictures. Be clear that the purpose of your photographs is artistic and not invasive.

Think about getting yourself a tripod if you are passionate about taking pictures. The main advantage of tripods is that they help keep your camera steady. It becomes almost a necessity if you do a lot of shots in low-light settings. A tripod is also invaluable for self-portraits and timed photography.

There's no hidden skill required to become a great photographer. The trick is practice, and constantly looking to gain experience and knowledge. If you have a digital camera, you'll probably end up deleting some of your pictures: you don't have to develop them all if you don't like them. You want to constantly experiment with new subjects and techniques, then judge and compare the results to see what worked best.

When you are to shoot photos of couples, families or groups, think of suggesting to them in advance about what to wear. The resulting photos will be greatly enhanced if clothing is kept within the same general scheme of colors and shades. You should get them to wear warm or neutral colors, this will good with all backgrounds. If subjects want to show off some bright colors, clashes can be avoided by setting off the colors with black clothing.

Take photos of interesting people whose faces tell stories. You should always ask permission first. Pictures like these help you to find more vivid memories when you look back, even if at the time the people seemed unremarkable. It's a great idea to focus on the unique styles and expressions visible in each individual picture.

When capturing images of natural features, large buildings or architectural structures, have some people in the frame to give the image some scale. If someone is looking at the photos and do not know how large it is, it might be hard for them to realize it without some sort of scale to judge by.

Make sure your photographs possess three very vital attributes. They need a foreground, middle ground, and finally a background. These are fundamentals to both art and photography.

Red eye can totally ruin a good photograph that could have otherwise gone on your wall. Red eye can be avoided by staying away from using the flash, or having your subject look away from the camera if flash is a necessity. Many modern cameras have red eye correction built in.
