Photography - Are You Aware?

To create photographic images that resemble paintings, try having your photos printed onto matte or semi-gloss papers, then painting them by hand with photographic oils or pastels. These items can be picked up at most art supply stores and many camera shops. The most popular paints are made by Marshall's and are created specifically for use on photographs.
When aiming for the perfect shot, remember to keep sunlight in mind. Too little and you can't see the subject. Too much and one of two things happen. The first is that too much sunlight is directed into the camera's lens or on the subject and washes out the picture. The second is the person being photographed has to blink or close his eyes because of the massive amounts of sunlight coming into his eyes.
When photographing portraits, isolate your subject. Use a medium telephoto lens or the medium telephoto setting on your zoom. That, combined with a large aperture (try f/4 or larger), blurs the foreground and background. Focus on the eyes. Use diffused lighting for a flattering look. If outdoors, wait for an overcast sky or shoot with the subject in the shadows and the sun at your back.
Pay attention to the foreground when you're shooting a landscape. Many photographers pay attention to the background of a landscape shot and neglect the foreground, but the foreground is what the viewer will see. Compose the foreground of your shot to create a more striking frame and increase the appearance of depth.
Do not let your knowledge shape your pictures. You should base your picture around your idea and creative feel and use knowledge and your equipment help you make this idea come to life. You can experiment with techniques when you first learn them, but you will take your best pictures when you let your ideas take charge.
Shoot during the "golden hours," especially if you are shooting human subjects. The time around dawn and dusk are named "golden hours" because the hue of the light makes objects look like they are glowing. This light also complements human skin, making human subjects appear to look better than they would in photos taken at other times of day.
In photography, make sure that your main focus is on the quality and not the quantity of the pictures that you take. It is always better for you to get ten great shots than one hundred average shots in a day. Quality is always the better choice.
Know your camera. If you have recently purchased new equipment, or if you have had yours for a while, but never taken the time to know it's ins and outs, then do so. Read the manual, or play with the functions extensively until you understand it. Knowing what your camera can do will give you better pictures as you can adjust to changing light and circumstances.
An important tip to consider when dealing with photography is that you always want to use the rule of thirds when taking landscape pictures. This means that you want to have 2/3 of your shot land and 1/3 sky, or vice versa. This is a guide to help frame your shot correctly.
The number one lighting to avoid in photography is the use of your built in camera flash. Using the flash setting in your camera actually creates the dreaded red eyes and makes your subjects appear featureless shadow blobs. Only use this setting in the case of an emergency if you are left with no other choice.
