Keep in mind how intimidating it can be to have all eyes focused on you as a model, so help your model to feel comfortable with you by creating a relaxed atmosphere. Many people feel threatened when a stranger starts photographing them. So be nice, initiate a conversation, then ask them if you could take their picture. Reassure people that the goal of your photography efforts is to capture and create art, and not to violate their privacy.
Take pictures of small gestures during a wedding. For example, a close up of the brides flower arrangement or some make up sitting on the vanity. Sometimes you will get some fantastic shots that are unexpected.
Stay still while you press the shutter. Don't even breathe. Even if you move the camera a little, it can ruin the photo. Take that second to freeze before touching your shutter button, hold your breath, and snap the perfect shot.
Write down interesting spots to photograph. Occasionally you will be without your camera and you will run across a great, photogenic place. Just make a note to return there later when you have your camera. Keep note paper with you so you can record the locations which you want to come back to.
Take photos of different people. Get permission first. When you travel, seeing these pictures can remind you of the memories involved, even if they contain average people in them. Try to catch people that are just ordinary.
When traveling to a new place, try to get some ideas of the types of things you should be shooting. If you do not know where to start, take a look at some postcards. Postcards have a lot of different ideas of locations or subjects you can take photos of.
