Fly fishing is a pretty detailed sport really, and there is nothing more complicated and confusing then the artificial flies in the fly fishing equipment. The Flies act to attract the fish's attention, and are the major player in catching a fish.

there is nothing straightforward about choosing the right fly for the right fish, its a hard and complex thing to do. In the past when you wanted to choose a fly it was easy enough, because there were specially designed flies to suit a specific fish. As an example there were trout flies to be used specifically for trout and salmon flies to be used on salmon. you get the picture. But now there plenty more flies to consider as specific flies can now cater to the varying diets of a particular fish.

But despite the difference in names, they usually have the same set of sub-categories. Again using the dry flies as an example, the sub-category of many flies can be found in both categories.

Even though flies have different type, flies will also differ is sizes. With a fly's size range from #22 to #2 with the latter being the largest size.

If you are confused don't worry, try talking to your reputable and experienced fly fishing equipment vendors. you should always talk to a expert, when in doubt of which type of fly to buy when you decide to got fly fishing.
