The history of charm bracelets gies back over centuries. But the fashion for wearing them has changed drastically over this time. The first photograph of a charm bracelet was taken in 1889. This was to become the iconic Tiffany's heart.
The significance and functionality of charm bracelets has changed with time. During the war, armed forces would return to their homeland with charms as a gift for their nearest and dearest. These charms were made by local craftsman from the countries the troops had been stationed in. They were given by soldiers to their loved ones as a souvenir. This means it is impossible to fit Pandora charms onto other types of charm bracelet. Conversely, other makes of charm will not fit onto Pandora bracelets.
A large number of charm suppliers also provide supplementary spacers and clips. These are a kind of simplistic charm that remain in a set place on the bracelet. They serve as a method of divvying up charms and stopping them from travelling about the bracelet. Makers of these charms and spacers include Blog by Aagaard, Chamilia and OHM.
Even though most charm jewellery is made in Europe it is also massively popular in the USA. The main appeal of charm jewellery is the overall flexibility it offers the wearer.
