Some of the finest New York museums offer visitors an once in a life opportunity. Some hold the guarantee of having the power to see famous work of art and others give you the opportunity to go back in time to a bygone time. Each place offers a complete day of journeys.

American Museum of Natural History

More than just the standard museum, the American Museum of Natural History also has a butterfly conservatory where you can engage with over 5 hundred species in a tropical rainforest setting. The museum's Fossil Hall contains over six hundred individual prehistoric dinosaur fossils. At the Anne and Bernard Spitzer Hall of Human Origins, you can gain a deeper understanding of the believed origins of humanity. No matter of what your interests, the American Museum of Natural History is certain to excite them. The museum is open each day except Thanksgiving and Xmas day. General admission is charged. Some exhibits need further tickets.

Metropolitan Museum of Art

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is thought by many to be the best art museum in the whole US. The museum is home to above 2,000,000 world works of art. The building includes over two-million-square-feet and holds a variety of paintings, sculptures and prints by artists from all across the globe.

Six blocks away from the Metropolitan Museum building sits another part of the museum called the Cloisters. The building is designed with 5 medieval French cloisters and is home to over five thousand works art from the 9th to the fifteenth century. The Metropolitan Museum of Art is closed on Mondays â€" except Met Mondays â€" Thanksgiving, Christmas day and New Years day. Admission is charged.

Ellis Island Immigration Museum

It is the site where 12,000,000 immigrants first entered America in pursuit of a dream. Many visit the museum for a chance to stand in the same location that their ancestors once stood as they entered a new country packed with dreams. Others visit Ellis Island to study the nations's history.

While on a visit to the museum, you can examine artifacts and photos of the history of the site. Videos and interactive displays are also found across the museum. Ellis Island Immigration Museum is open every day of the year except Christmas day. Entry to the museum is free but there is a ferry charge.
